A beach in Hernando County, just over an hour away from Safety Harbor, opened today after being closed for weeks due to the COVID-19 virus threat,
Hernando County commissioners voted Tuesday to reopen all parks, including Alfred McKethan/Pine Island Park and the Rogers Park beach area beginning Wednesday. No organized sports, events or large gatherings will be permitted. Rentals of county buildings and pavilions will not be permitted.
Residents are encouraged to follow the Centers for Disease Control guidelines and restrictions including staying at least 6 feet from one another and avoid large gatherings.
Pinellas and Manatee counties will reopen beaches on Monday.
